Awards & Grants

EPSRC PhD student awards

If you are a UK/EU student you may be eligible for one of these. The EPSRC awards are intended for selected EU students participating in the PhD programme and the main conference. The awards cover PhD Programme fees, main conference registration fees, standard student hall accommodation (if required), excursion & conference dinner, and a contribution towards travel expenses. Preference will be given to students who contribute to the PhD programme.

To be considered for one of these awards please follow the application instructions for the PhD Programme. The deadline for applications is 30th of May 2006.

Grants

For students and conference participants not eligible for the EPSRC awards, a small number of additional grants are available. This includes grants funded by the London Mathematical Society for mathematicians and participants from Africa, or a country in which mathematics is in a similar position, or a participant from a country of the former Soviet Union.

A committee will review the applications and award grants to those who would not otherwise have resources to attend the conference, and whose attendance would benefit both the applicant and the conference. Preference will be given to authors or co-authors of accepted papers.

Please send your letter of application to g.struth@dcs.shef.ac.uk. The deadline for applying for these grants is the 19th of June 2006.

Any student applicant should also request his or her supervisor to send a recommendation letter by email to g.struth@dcs.shef.ac.uk. The letter should confirm the student's status, describe the student's work, the benefit to that work of attending the conference, and confirm that no alternative funds are available. Recommendation letters should arrive no later than the 19th of June 2006.

Applicants who receive grants will be allowed to register at the early registration rate. Applicants will be notified of the decision of the committee by the 26th of June 2006.
