Absence last session and other irregularities

In addition to, or instead of, the less than sign, there may also be a little number to the left of the student's name. This states the number of ``irregularities'' that student has for your course. (Or more correctly, the number they had when the sheet was printed: you can see that date at the top of the page). To the left of the sheet is a report containing all such irregularities, sorted by student. While taking attendance, you can glance at these and ask the student about them. Some of then will be mistakes which must be fixed (see below).

An obvious case to check is if the irregularity reports that the student was absent at the previous session. When you ask them, they are likely to tell you the reason, such as an illness for example. You can then record the data appropriately - see below about special circumstances.

Unfortunately, there is currently no way in ARCADE to record whether or not you have discussed each irregularity with the student. Any writing you make on the irregularity report will be completely ignored. The worst consequence of this may be that you ask a student more than once about the same irregularity. But you are likely to remember the most serious ones anyway.
