Late work

If the students don't complete by the deadline: then if they don't ask for an extension, or they don't complete by the extended deadline, the work is flagged (by ARCADE) as being late. Late work should be marked in the normal way with no penalty being applied by the marker. However, when ARCADE calculates the overall mark for the laboratory for that course unit, late work does not contribute once that overall mark has reached 40%. Thus if all the work for a student (for a course unit) is late, the most the student will be given by ARCADE is 40%. If some of their work is late, but their work which was not late accumulates a mark of more than 40%, then their late work is simply discarded! This may sound drastic, but in fact the typical overall score lost for being late for any course unit is only approximately 2%. This is because the students generally ensure their work is not late! The few weak or lazy students who have a late flag for most deadlines tend to just scrape a pass mark anyway.
