Here is a brief summary of this document:
- At the start of each academic year ensure you register your skills,
otherwise you will not be able to demonstrate. You may also need to complete
an application form.
- At the start of each semester, you will be allocated to demonstrate for
a number of hours for particular course units.
- Agree the demonstrating rota with the Laboratory Supervisor.
- Ensure that you promptly attend the sessions at which you are required;
inform the Laboratory Supervisor as soon as you can if you will not be able
to attend.
- Marking taking priority over helping.
- Aim to apply the given marking scheme in a consistent manner.
- Help means help: try not simply to tell students the answer -- show
them how to work out the answer themselves.
- Ensure students use labprint and labmail,
where necessary.
- Use the labprint sheets to record marks and to give constructive written
feedback, and to indicate mistakes.
- Raise any problems with the Laboratory Supervisor: questions about the
marking scheme; suspected plagiarism; students with problems.
- Do not spend too long with one student.
- Be proactive: if there is no marking and students are not requesting
help, then walk around the laboratory and see how students are getting on.
- At the end of a laboratory session transfer your marks to the ARCADE Lab
Book. Use a red pen. Initial any marks. Tick the appropriate `Completed By'
column.
- Do not deal with attendance/lates/excuses/extensions -- the Laboratory
Supervisor will do this.
