The Allocation Process

We undertake the demonstrator allocation essentially on a per-Semester basis, doing Semester 1 in September and Semester 2 in January. We will notify you of the hours that we would like you to work. We do this by considering:

  1. those who have demonstrated in the laboratory previously,
  2. particular requests from Laboratory Supervisors (for example a demonstrator may have help prepare laboratory exercises)
  3. your skills profile from your completed Web-form and then matching this against the combination of skills required for the laboratories associated with each course unit
  4. the balance of the allocation.

Unfortunately, it may of course be the case that, due to your skills profile and our particular requirements for the semester, that you do not get any allocation. We may also need to change the allocation at some point during the semester.

When you have been allocated, you should contact the appropriate Lab Supervisor in order to determine the timetable for laboratory sessions and the demonstrating rota. It is important at this stage to let the Laboratory Supervisor know if you will not be available for particular sessions. The Laboratory Supervisor will also give you copies of laboratory exercises and marking schemes.
