Computing the Future conference

Date: Wednesday 17 March 2010 from 9:45 AM - 4:15 PM
Venue: The School of Computer Science, The University of Manchester, Oxford Road, Manchester M13 9PL.

We'd like to invite you and up to 10 of your fifth and sixth form students to a FREE one-day Computing conference organised by Computing at School, supported by the BCS Academy of Computing.

It promises to be a highly informative, engaging and enjoyable day with speakers from industry, education, university and research.

Speakers and topics include:

  • Building Brains, with Professor Steve Furber (designer of the BBC Micro)
  • Computing with cells and molecules
  • Computer games
  • Paul Curzon on how computer science can help paralysed people

There's also a competition for the best A3 poster describing what a computer might look like in 2020!

...and also a slot for a student or group of students with or without their teacher to give a ten minute presentation at the conference on what they are doing/enjoying in Computer Science.

The Turing Lecture

By a happy coincidence, 6th Annual IET/BCS Manchester Turing Lecture also takes place on the same day, Weds 17 March, 1800-1930, in Roscoe Lecture Theatre A at The University of Manchester.

"The University of Manchester, in partnership with the IET and BCS, are delighted to announce Professor Christopher Bishop as this year's Turing Lecture speaker. Chris Bishop (Chief Research Scientist, Microsoft Research Cambridge) will be delivering a lecture titled Embracing Uncertainty: The new machine intelligence."
