Latest news:
Site updated: 15 Jun 2013
New race - Fun on the Fells - Fri, 14 Jun - a great start for this new race. Thanks to organisers Sue and Vicky (not forgetting their little helpers, Andy & Lis'). Hopefully it will be back next year and you'll get a chance to try it out if you missed it this time (and the BBQ, drinks and live band!). Here are the results - thanks to Andy for these. [Race details].

Hayfield Championship 2013 - six races out of the way so far - three more to come. A good few entries in already and room for plenty more... Here is the table (updated 4 Jun) after six races. Next race - Kinder Trog on Sun, 23 Jun.

Three Days in May - 10-12 May - three days, three races...

  • Fri, 10 May - 7:30pm - May Queen fell race - Hayfield to Lantern Pike summit and back - 3 miles.

Thanks to Mary, the May Queen Committee and all of the helpers. Here are the results.

  • Sat, 11 May - 11:00am - Mount Famine fell race - quite a few ups and downs taking you to Mount Famine and South Head - 5 miles

Thanks to Mark, helpers, marshals, etc, etc! Here are the results.

  • Sun, 12 May - 2:00pm - Lantern Pike Dash - just over a mile but rather steep and a second visit to Lantern Pike, this time from Little Hayfield.

A little dampness didn't deter an impressive turnout for this painful little race. Thanks to Richard and Debbie for organising. Here are the results and here are the juniors.

29 people with nothing better to do with their time turned out for all three races. Adam Perry and Caitlin Rice were series winners - congratulations to them. Here is the table.

HAYFIELD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013

The Hayfield Championship is based around fell races held near Hayfield. There are no specific compulsory races but you must complete at least four of the nine races and complete at least one race in each length category (short, medium and long).

New for 2013: The May Queen and Lantern Pike Dash races are added as counters and the entry fee goes up by a pound (but still great value!).

  1. Lamb's Longer Leg - Sun, 13th Jan (Short)
  2. Kinder Trial - Sat, 26th Jan (Long)
  3. Kinder Downfall - Sun, 14th Apr (Medium)
  4. May Queen - Fri, 10th May (Short)
  5. Mount Famine - Sat, 11th May (Short)
  6. Lantern Pike Dash - Sun, 12th May (Short)
  7. Kinder Trog - Sun, 23rd Jun (Long)
  8. Cracken Edge - Wed, 7th Aug (Medium)
  9. Lantern Pike - Sat, 21st Sep (Short)
Entry to the championship costs £6 and you can enter at any race up to and including Cracken Edge. All successful finishers receive a championship T-shirt. Championship scoring is based on the position in each race where the first championship runner scores one point, the second scores two, etc. The winner is the runner with the lowest number of points in their four best races which includes at least one of each length. Prizegiving is at the Lantern Pike race.

This year there will also be a Grand Slam award, presented at the Famous Grouse race (on Sun, 24 Nov) to anyone who completes all ten local races.

All you need to know about entering is on the entry form or for more information contact Andy Howie (see Kinder Trial details below).

LOCAL RACE DIARY - 2013

The list below shows races which are held within a 10 mile (-ish) radius of Hayfield. Most of these are fell races which are listed in the Fell Runners Association fixture list. Join the FRA for more details of these races or visit the FRA web site for race updates. Some of the longer races are organised by the Long Distance Walking Association (LDWA) principally for walkers but runners are welcome at the races listed here. Visit the LDWA web site for more details.

I attempt to keep this list correct and up to date but if you spot an error or know of a race I have omitted please let me know.

LINKS

  • Hayfield - if you can avoid being mown down by fell runners charging about all over the place it's actually not a bad place to live...
  • FRA - the Fell Runners Association is the governing body for fell running in England. Individual membership costs £12 per year and amongst the many good reasons for joining are the Fellrunner magazine which is sent to members three times per year and the annual fixture list which provides details of around 500 fell races throughout the UK.
Here is a downloadable copy (PDF format) of the standard FRA entry form.
  • LDWA - the Long Distance Walking Association organises walks of various distances up to 100 miles. Many of these walks allow runners to take part and they make excellent training runs, quite often with tea and biscuits en route.
  • Bullock Smithy Hike - if you find yourself at the finish of the Kinder Trog thinking "that wasn't too bad - maybe I'll run round a couple more times" then it may be that the Bullock Smithy is your sort of race (and it has an excellent results site!)
  • Kinder Mountain Rescue - there's a good chance that these chaps will come to your assistance should you find yourself in difficulty while running on the hills around Hayfield.

ABOUT THE RESULTS PAGES

Index All of the race results are listed on an index page. From there you can click on a race to see the results for that race. Click here for the INDEX
Sorting On each results page (and also on the index page) you can click on the column headings to redisplay the page sorted on the column. For example, clicking on the Cat link will show relative placings in each age category. You can also use the SORT M/F link to display male and female results separately. Sorting by Pos or Time will show the results in their usual form.
Searching The names of the runners on the results pages are also links which you can click to display that person's results for all the races on this site. Where there are more runners with the same surname you will find another link which will list results for all runners with that surname.
You can also search by entering a runner's surname here
Printing To get a 'clean' copy of a page without any links use the PRINTABLE link.
Statistics Use the STATISTICS link to get some simple statistics about a race.
Site info The site was created on 6 Jun, 2003.
