Reseach Associate in Ontology Engineering

Start date: 1 January 2019 (earliest)
Duration: up to 6 months

The appointment will be in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester to work on EPSRC IAA Project “Comparison and Abstraction of SNOMED CT Ontologies”. The project aims to apply knowledge and tools developed from previous research for tracking the changes between different versions of an ontology and forgetting some terms from an ontology thereby computing an abstraction of it. The focus of the project will be a trial on a core subset of the SNOMED CT medical ontology in order to address content related quality issues.

You will be working with Dr Renate Schmidt in the Formal Methods Group and contacts at IHTSDO/SNOMED International. The School of Computer Science is among the largest in the UK, and has research and teaching profiles that are both broad and deep, reflecting critical mass both in core areas of the discipline and more specialised areas. It was ranked 4th in overall GPA in REF 2014 and equal 1st for the quality of the research environment.
