Research Skills and Professional Issues Course Unit

The 30-credit weighted course unit on Research Skills and Professional Issues, as well as covering workplace skills issues arising in a professional career, acts as a foundation for your Research Project and you will undertake the initial part of your project as part of this course unit. The course unit covers various aspects of research skills, including the process of undertaking research, managing a research project, conduct during your MSc project, preparation for dissertation writing and the skills associated with professional and research writing. In addition, you will have regular meetings with your project supervisor and begin preliminary work on your project during the course of the second Semester. This work includes all required background and preparatory work, reading releated literature, learning to use software/hardware systems required for the project, and extensive project planning including its scope, aims, achievements and timetable. This work is to be written up as a Project Progress Report (including a group report in case of group projects) and submitted before the end of the second Semester (exact deadline to be announced).
