The Timetabling Process

This is information about how I create the timetable for this department. This information is only of interest to people concerned with the process of creating timetables. (Note: I timetable teaching activities, not exams!) I publish it, not because I think my process is wonderful (it is most emphatically not), but in the hope that it might help someone produce some wonderful software that will help me in the future!

How I created the timetables for 1999/2000 This process takes far too much of my time to be repeated each year. Instead, I try to make the minimum of changes to deal with perturbations until the timetable becomes so horrible that I have to go through the full process again.
