Norman Paton

I am a Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester, where I co-lead the Information Management Group.

I have worked at Manchester since 1995, prior to which I was a lecturer at Heriot-Watt University and a research assistant at Aberdeen University, from which I graduated with a BSc in 1986 and a PhD in 1989. I have had a variety of roles during my time at Manchester, including Director of the Research School, Director of Teaching Strategy, and Head of School. I am currently Director of our Postgraduate Taught Programmes.

In terms of community roles, at the moment I am President of the EDBT Association, and am a member of the Editorial Board of Distributed and Parallel Databases.

My research focuses on distributed information management for challenging environments and applications. This includes pay-as-you-go data integration, data wrangling, sensor network query processing and autonomic computing.
