Adaptive Query Processing
Adaptive query processing involves changing query execution plans while they are executing, to revise decisions made by the optimizer in the light of new evidence about the data over which the query is evaluating or the execution context of the query.
Results in this area include insights into the relative merits of different approaches to adaptive load balancing, the provision of techniques that facilitate adaptation in pipelined plans, and a generic query plan monitoring framework.
