Community Involvement

In addition to my PhD research, I also undertake other duties within the Human Centered Web Lab and the university.

Teaching Assistant

The School of Computer Science provides practical lab sessions for students who are on taught courses. This allows them to gain practical experience in applying the theory that has been taught in the classroom. Teaching assistants help with lab demonstrations. Demonstrating involves providing assistance to students, assessing coursework as well as taking attendance. I help out with the following course(s):

HCW Lab Website Co-maintainer

The Human Centred Web Lab website carries information about cutting edge research conducted within the lab. I co-maintain the website with my colleague Alex Chen.

Human Factors Interest Group Seminar Organiser

The Human Factors Interest Group is a University wide initiative on human factors. It is made up of researchers from within and without the university who are interested in the intersection between technology and people. I help to facilitate this group and maintain the HFIG Website.

PhD Mentor

The first year of a PhD can be difficult and so the School Of Computer Science offers a mentoring service. Mentors (myself included) are second and third year students who provide advice to first year PhD students with regards to any concerns they have about their studies. To lighten the mood, we also organise social events to enable the first years to get to know each other in a less formal setting. In addition, we act as the school representatives in various boards, such as School Board, Staff-Student Consultative Committee and PGR Student Representation. For more information, please visit the mentor Website.
