School of Computer Science

Grace Mbipom

I am a research student and teaching assistant at the School of Computer Science, University of Manchester. I belong to the Human Centred Web Lab, which is also part of the Information Management Group. I had previously received a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Calabar, Nigeria and an MSc in Artificial Intelligence (Natural Language Processing) from the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh. While at the University of Edinburgh, I worked on an aspect of the Euromatrix project. The project looked at automatically translating texts between all pairs of EU languages. I focused on improving the decoding speed and fluency of the translation output for French-English language pair.

My current research interests are centred around Web accessibility, and I am presently investigating the link between visual aesthetics and accessibility as it affects Web users. My research project is EIVAA, and I am being supervised by Dr Simon Harper. Our aim is to develop a framework that supports the delivery of aesthetic and accessible Web content. In general, I am interested in research that seeks to facilitate inclusive digital information sharing by addressing barriers stemming from technology, language, environment and (dis)ability.
