On Characteristics and Differences of Component Execution Environments K.-K. Lau and V. Ukis School of Computer Science The University of Manchester Manchester M13 9PL, UK kung-kiu,vu@cs.man.ac.uk Abstract: Binary components are typically deployed into an execution environment. The execution environment impacts to a great extent how the components will execute at runtime. Current component models, however, neglect this fact. It is assumed that a component can run in any execution environment. In order to defeat this assumption, in this report we investigate current widely proliferated execution environments for components. We show what they are, characteristics they possess and differences they exhibit. The differences lead us to the insights why and how the component execution environment influences component runtime execution.
