Java Just in Time: a first course in programming
Coursework
The book does not contain end of chapter exercises -- it does better than that! Nearly every section has an associated piece of coursework at the end of it. The idea is that, after reading the example in that section, the student can immediately undertake the coursework to consolidate the ideas introduced during that section.
For best effect, students should try to resist looking at the associated example while undertaking the coursework. This may take a little longer, but it ensures that learning is happening at the deepest level.
