Dr Caroline Jay
I am the Human-Computer Interaction specialist in the Web Ergonomics Lab.
My research covers many aspects of HCI, but focuses chiefly on modelling how people perceive and use digital information. In particular, I am interested in determining how a visual disability affects Web browsing, and how a blind person's experience of the Web differs from that of a sighted person. My research interests also include understanding human behaviour in Virtual Environments, and determining how best to display visual information using audio and haptic (force-feedback) devices.
Current Work
I am currently working with the myGrid team to evaluate and improve the user experience of their MethodBox software.
Previous Research Projects
- ViSAS: Investigating the 'order' in which people view parts of an image.
- SASWAT: Improving the accessibility of Web 2.0. for blind people through understanding how sighted people interact with it.
- Directed Attention: Understanding how layout and saliency affect visual attention on Web pages.
- Collaborative Haptics: Modelling how network delay affects human behaviour in Virtual Environments.
- Amplified Head Movements: Compensating for the narrow field of view in Virtual Environments.
