Alasdair is a post-doctoral researcher in the Information and Management Group in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on overcoming the problems of heterogeneity when integrating data from multiple autonomous data sources, where the heterogeneity can manifest itself as the model of the data (i.e. the schema used), the representation of the data (e.g. RDF or relational), or the modality of the data (e.g. sensed, streaming, or stored).
Alasdair received his PhD Integrating Distributed Data Streams from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh in 2007. He has worked on the following data integration research projects:
- Open PHACTS (2011-present) at the University of Manchester;
- SemSorGrid4Env (2009–2011) at the University of Manchester;
- Explicator (2007–2009) at the University of Glasgow;
- MAGIK-I (2005–2007) at Heriot-Watt University.
