Mind Millie for Me








A George Feydeau Farce
Feydeau's Occupe-Toi d'Ameilie is best known in English as Coward's Look After Lulu. This was a new adaptation by Nicki Frai and Peter Hall, and toured as Emily Needs Attention. It played in the West End at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from May 6th until June 15th 1996. It was originally set to run for the whole of the summer but the reviews were rather mixed and the audiences were presumably not that good. I don't like farces much and it seemed like the normal kind of farce to me. Neil was great :-)
Action takes place in Paris, May 1908. Etienne is about to go on military call up and asks his best friend, Marcel, to "Mind Millie", his mistress. Millie is a high class courtesan. Marcel ends up in bed with her. Meanwhile....Marcel has to get married to claim an inheritance that will make him a man of independent means....cue lots of jumping in and out of beds, running in and out of doors and misdirected letters.

Maybe Etienne ought to have trusted Millie and maybe Marcel should have got an honest job....:-)
