Current and Previous Work

 

During my PhD I worked on the globally distributed software engineering project (GDSE), sponsored by BT. GDSE was a joint project between UMIST, Keele Universiy and BT. The project investigated social and technical issues of globally distributed software engineering with a focus on software development and resulted in several publications and system prototypes. My work focused on the technical aspects and activities of GDSE systems and included developing a software model/prototype, and conducting empirical studies, and the work resulted in a model that enables and supports the GDSE process.

CLARiFi is an EU-sponsored project that involves numerous partners in the UK and Europe. The project aims to build a broker for components and component-based systems. My work in the project focused on two aspects. The first is developing a component-supplier interface system that enables efficient and accurate registering of software components for eventual use and selection by ned-users, customers and integrators. The second is researching into methods for predicting or composing non-functional properties of components and component-based systems.

My current work includes project managing and contributing to the research and software development activities in CLEF and CLEF-Services. In terms of software development, currently, in addition to the technical team I lead the collaborative research environment work package that aims to create and build a virtual workbench and research environment for CLEF/CLEF-Services based on the Portal technology. The eventual aim of the workbench is to enable researchers to retrieve, analyse and research the underlying clinical data using various developed tools within a safe and secure environment that maintains the privacy and confidentiality of the data and patients.
