An appeal from Adrian Albin-Clark

Hi. I'm a teacher undertaking a PhD in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester.

I'm investigating the potential of a novel 3D interactive simulation which I have developed for pedagogical observers, specifically in early childhood.

A pilot study has already been conducted with encouraging results.

I'm now looking for more eligible people (students, educators, practitioners) to take part from December 2011 onwards.

About the simulation

Observation is a software simulation which can be used to support observations made by pedagogical practitioners.

Observation combines game-oriented technology: 3D graphics; animation; physics; and classical game artificial intelligence.

In Observation, the well-documented stages of blockplay have been used to represent the physical play of characters, and social play stages and egocentrism define their behaviour. Their well-being can be monitored and influenced by the observer.

Testimonials

Amazing.

I did get 'hooked' in the simulation.

I did enjoy establishing the characters.

Am getting much better at keeping their well being high now i can feed them! Maslow would be proud lol!

I am fascinated!

I have had 2 plays (just for fun!) each time setting up the characters and watching them for half an hour or so to see what they got up to.
